About the Association

A profession united in the service of Tanzania since 1959

The Medical Association of Tanzania (MAT) was founded in 1959 as the national professional body uniting the country's doctors. For over six decades it has been the collective voice of the profession — advocating for sound health policy, safeguarding professional standards, and supporting doctors in every region.

Our purpose is to promote the art and science of medicine and allied sciences, to maintain the honour and interest of the medical profession, and to attain the highest level of quality healthcare services in Tanzania.
